Electrical Foreman - Per Diem Offered
Trillium Construction is seeking a motivated Relay & Commissioning Foreman to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and energizing electrical power system equipment in high-voltage substations. You’ll work with protective relays, RTUs, breakers, transformers, and other critical electrical equipment to ensure systems are installed, tested, and commissioned safely and efficiently.
This position offers a combination of office and field work and requires extensive travel to project sites throughout the United States. Pay rate is $60/hour.
Key Responsibilities
• Review electrical drawings, relay settings, and project documentation prior to commissioning.
• Perform equipment inspections and checkout procedures to verify proper installation.
• Identify and resolve issues related to equipment, materials, or installation before commissioning activities begin.
• Conduct pre-energization testing and safety checks on electrical protection systems.
• Test, commission, and troubleshoot protective relays, RTUs, breakers, transformers, and related equipment.
• Verify proper operation of protection and control systems through functional testing.
• Support safe energization of electrical systems while maintaining compliance with company and industry safety standards.
• Document testing results and communicate project status with project teams.
• Travel to project sites across the United States to support commissioning activities.
Travel Requirements
• Extensive nationwide travel is required.
• Some assignments may last several weeks.
• Travel schedules are typically planned in advance, with periods of increased travel based on project needs.

Qualifications
Required
• Associate degree (2-year minimum) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience testing and commissioning electrical power systems and controls.
• Ability to read and interpret:
o Single-line and three-line electrical drawings
o Schematics and wiring diagrams
o Network diagrams
o Mechanical drawings
• Experience testing and commissioning protection equipment, including:
o Protective relays
o RTUs
o Circuit breakers
o Power transformers
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to electrical equipment and control systems.
• Working knowledge of electrical safety practices, including shock and arc flash hazards.
• Ability to work independently in both office and field environments.
Preferred
• Previous experience working in high-voltage (HV) substations.
